Writing for Technorati

Published by admin under In The Begining,Website on October 15, 2009

I am over the moon excited!!!! Hopefully my writing for one of the largest social networks will get my writing some recognition. I got an e-mail a month or so back asking me if I’d be interested in writing for Technorati, and I was like SURE! So I followed all the necessary steps to get set-up as a writer. They redesigned their site from the ground up, and liked the idea of having their own articles on their site. I think it’s a great idea too because it gives bloggers like me the opportunity to be featured on their site. Now that it is launched you too can sign up too and write for them.

Give my article some love! Here it is my first article that is exclusively on Technorati

Tricky Tricky Technorati

Published by admin under In The Begining,Website on July 20, 2009

I do not think that I am alone in this after all my google searches. It took more then a month of trial and error just to get my blog claimed on Technorati. Nothing I did seemed to work. I kept getting a 500 error message saying basically that my website didn’t exist. I sent in support ticket after support ticket only to be met with an automated response. It was clear I was going to have to resolve this on my own after the 2nd week of waiting. There was a lot of sifting through useless information. By useless I mean everyone saying the same thing. Basically saying “what’s so hard about putting a claim code in your damn blog post?”. To which I had no reply. It seemed like a surefire thing, but yet it would still give me an error code. Then I double checked my website address….yeah I’m pretty sure that’s my address. How could I not know my own URL for heaves sake. I felt like such a dumb-ass. What could I possibly be doing wrong? Then I thought about it. Technorati shortens your URL by taking off the ‘www’ or anything else after the ‘.com’. It made me realize it wasn’t pulling up my website address properly. Being sneaky I entered as my site address “http://www.www.deepnthought.com”. Low and behold there was a sign….a different error code(400 error to be exact)! At least it wasn’t saying that I didn’t exist anymore ha ha ha. Now it was saying my claim code was not properly displayed when they tried crawling my website.
I was baffled since I had the code in thee title of my post and in the body. I returned to Google searching that lead me to a site that explained putting the code in a “href” actually “coding” it into your website. Janice’s Technorati tips and trickswas an answer to my prayers. Yes I prayed about technorati…I bored god with trivial website nonsense.

2. If you are using the “a href” code to claim your blog

Make sure that the code Displays just the “Technorati Profile” text as a link in the Preview or after the post is published (See Example Below). Otherwise the claim will not work. The link must also appear on the Blog Home Page for the Technorati spiders to be able to find the code as well. Best bet: Place the code in at the top of a brand new post.

If it looks like this in your post in your Preview, it won’t work (plus it’s uuuugly!)

<a href=”http://technorati.com/claim/xxxxxxxxx” rel=”me”>Technorati Profile</a>

If it looks like this in your post in your Preview, it’s all good!
Technorati Profile

Thank you Janice! It was like a lightbulb went off in my head. I went ahead and put the “href” code in the body of my post. It was like instanoues. I had claimed my blog! All my blood, sweat, and tears had not been for nothing. I am now a technorati elite. I will now be able to monitor my rank in the blogosphere, and now people will know that it is I, Brittany, who is watching over deep-n-thought.
