Black Friday AND SATURDAY?

Published by admin under Pandemonium on November 29, 2009

This must be a new phenomenon because I always swear off  “Black Friday” and head out to the stores Saturday because I could care less about sales I just want to shop without the hassle.  I don’t remember Saturday last year being so black lol.

This morning we ventured out thinking it was safe, but everywhere we went it was hectic & there were sales going on toting “Black Saturday” slogans. I guess just Friday is no longer good enough for them. It wasn’t too crowded, but it had that fire sale feeling in the atmosphere that crawls under my skin and makes me a nervous wreck. None of the items I happened to be seeking out were on sale either haha. Just my luck.

We got these cute nifty lil LED colored Christmas lights (my “Green” came out) at Garden Ridge for a steal though. Naomi’s last present was snagged up at Target along with some diapers(totally unchristmas related haha). After a short interlude at home involving chicken nuggets and naps I went out with the girls for dinner and shopping again while Matthew went hunting with his Uncle.   At Big Lots I grabbed Princess wrapping paper for Vera and Tinker Bell for Nogi. At $2 a huge roll it was a pretty good deal and it wasn’t a sale item either. Then because I was waiting for Matthew to get back from hunting I killed some time and money at Dollar Tree on tape and stocking stuffers.

Before we headed home for the evening Matthew joined us at Walmart to get our tree (if you can call it that) and some 3M Reusable Command Adhesive Strip Hooks to hang the girls stockings with. Being as we are apartment dwellers with children we are limited to space so we were shooting for a “Charlie Brown” tree and that is definitely what we got haha.

Our potted Norfolk Island Pine is cute in an odd sort of way. It’s a very good first tree for the girls. We’ve never had a tree in the 3 years of Vera’s short lil life sadly.  Hopefully I don’t kill the tree before Christmas. That would be a  travesty. We stayed up late with them to hang the stockings and put our new LED light strand on our “Charlie Brown” tree and joined in singing “Hark! The Herold Angels Sing” in true Charlie Brown fashion haha. It’s been on heck of a “Black Saturday” I’ll tell ya that much! Now that the girls are sleeping peacefully I”m going to finish my Samuel Adams Winter Lager(which is awesome by the way) and get some Z’s. Can’t wait to make ornaments with Vera tomorrow after grocery shopping ^_^.

Playing Movie Theater

Published by admin under Pandemonium on November 25, 2009

Anytime Grandma Bianca, Brian, or Aunt Olivia come over Vera assumes we’re going to the movies. It’s cute because she is so ready to push us out the door & she asks for “cockcorn”(…not so cute lol;we’re working on the pronunciation still). How she makes this assumption I’m not sure. She’s a smart kid.

Yesterday Matthew brought home from work one of those infamous popcorn tins that are everywhere this time of year, and a lil light when off in my head. I’ve wanted to take Vera to the movies, but don’t think she could sit still that long. Why not “take her to the movies” at home?

I lined up the girls car-seats side by side this morning after bath time. Earlier I had taken out some yellow construction paper drew three tickets (one for me, Naomi, and Vera) and then cut them out. I also took some of the popcorn from the tin & made a little bowl for me and Vera to share, poured a sippy cup with coke (I’ll be regretting that come naptime), and  put some crackers for Naomi in a bowl.  Once I had everything set up i.e. movie in the blu-ray player I explained to Vera that we were going to the movies and gave her the ticket I had made.  I gave Naomi hers too, but she tried to eat it muahaha. Vera was really excited though and proceeded to ask for “cockcorn” & me the smarty pants was prepared and I handed her the bowl and told her to go take her seat in our “theater” . Once I helped her and Naomi sit in their seats I took there tickets and tore them in half and started the movie there was complete silence. I even let the previews play to really make it feel like we were at a movie theater. Granted they’ve watched the Little Mermaid before, but I don’t think she ever paid as much attention as she did today. BOTH of them sat there the entire time. That is definitely a first. Maybe Vera could go see a movie. I want to take her to the new Disney movie “The Princess and the Frog”. Maybe we’ll take her to the matinae and then I’ll only be blowing $5 ^_^.
