I had the pleasure of receiving The Rainbow Brite Adventure Pack from Mom Select that was an interactive CD with games, puzzles, animated short, and their theme song. They even gave me a few copies that I passed out to a few friends to check out.
Rainbow Brite may have been a year or so before my birth, but I grew up watching reruns and even had several of the color kids’ dolls and plush sprites haha. I remember watching over and over the episodes and movies my mom had recorded on the TV for me. My initial reaction to the reboot of this beloved character from my childhood was that it’s not a cute and cuddly toddler anymore it’s a sexualized tween with an attitude. I was a bit disappointed and bothered by this. What was wrong with her in the first place? Nothing. Rainbow Brite was adored and loved by many just the way she was. A lot of companies these days have been pulling skeletons out of my childhood closet and dressing them up like something new, and by doing so I just feel like they are ruining it. I wish companies would be able to create new wholesome characters like the original Rainbow Brite that parents could feel at ease about introducing to their children. I was actually really looking forward to sharing this character with my girls, but was hesitant after checking out Halmark’s page for myself.
I did go ahead and share the activity CD with the girls, and we played some games and watched the little animated short together. It turned out the girls really liked it.
Maybe I’m just being an over protective mother. However I didn’t see anything wrong with the way Rainbow Brite looked before and saw no reason for the recent “updated” look. The character could have been easily rebooted without it; just my opinion.

If I had a wallet there would be a hole in it the size the Grand Canyon right now. Since Vera arrived on the scene Matthew and I have had larger than usual tax returns, and this year was no exception since now we have two dependents; Vera AND NAOMI. Couldn’t imagine how glorious a return would be with three little dependents. Anyways doesn’t matter too much because you spend way more on the dependent then you get back, which is just fine otherwise people would be breeding in order to get government money. With that said it is still nice to get a large chunk of change. The possibilities are endless when you have a large sum at once because you can make big ticket purchases or you can be responsible and save it all. Yet at the same time there are all the things you put off during the year because you couldn’t afford it then that come back to haunt you when making your “Tax Return Spending” excel spread sheet. A girl just can’t win. This tax return money that we haven’t even gotten back yet is burning a hole in my imaginary wallet.
So what am I pining away for, you may ask? Well A LOT. And there isn’t enough to do it all.
I have a lot of things that I have to use the money responsibly for too. 1st and foremost Matthew and I have to pay back our good friend who put my laptop & Matthew’s speakers on his credit card for us (we have absolutely no credit after filing bankrupcy almost two years ago 0_0). Then we’re saving $2,500 to put down on (that is if someone will finace us)/ for a car and $1,000 to put away for when our lease is up. Those expenses pretty much take up more then half of the money. We also have this years entertainment to think about. We’ll have to get our Sea World and Zoo season passes. Vera’s already been begging to go to Sea World, but thankfully it’s been visably cold and wet out therefore we have good reason to tell her no. Then there are those expenses that we’ve put off. I think I’m going to bypass that root cannal the dentist recommend and get contacts and new lenses for my glasses. Then Matthew needs new glasses too. Wondering if there is any money left? Yeah me too. Somehow I had been delusional enough to think that somehow we could save all the money and use it as a downpayment for a house. Sadly there is just too much that needs to be done to do that. If there is anything left over there are a couple of items each of us has longed for over the year & we’ll probably try to get those.
I’d love to hear what you are spending your tax return money on or if you are even spending it at all. Leave me a comment & let me know!
