Reading

Published by admin under Pandemonium on May 27, 2010

This Thursday we’re discussing over at Girl Talk Thursday Do you make time to read? What are your favorite novels?

I  personally don’t make time. Depending on the quality of the book it makes it’s own time because if I can’t put it down then I’ll sit for hours and read vs. playing with the kids. I know I’m a bad mom. If it’s not good then it gets picked up when I go to the shitter. I must state though that I never start  a book and not finish it. No matter how horrible it is. I’ve read some really bad books. HOWEVER Matthew and I make time to read together where I read & he listens. We try to when the girls go to sleep if there isn’t a movie we want to watch together. We’ve kind of created our own lil two person book club. Lame, I know. BUT it really brings us closer together because we’re spending time and sharing thoughts/opinions.

On to My Favorite Novels….well this is a perfect opportunity for a list and they are ordered by favoritism by the way.

  1. Identity Crisis If I did not list this as my favorite novel even though it is technically a “graphic novel” I would be lying. Every time I read this I cry like a little baby. When they say pictures say 1,000 words, believe it. The plot and the turn of this story will keep you guessing (and I’ve read a lot of mysteries in my days).  Very hard story to stomach, but touching.
  2. Walk Two Moons This may be classified as young adult, but I’ve reread it so many times even as an adult. I even read it to Matthew. When you read this book you are on the journey with the main character, and you feel every emotion imaginable; happiness, sadness, fear….hope. It in my opinion is a classic. I mean blackberry kisses are not something you can easily forget. “Huzza Huzza”
  3. The Horse and His Boy while I loved every Novel out of C.S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia
this was by far my favorite. I mean what is there not to love about a talking Horse, dude? The entire plot of this story is just exciting. You feel like you’re escaping with Shasta (a bad-ass name by the way).  It really stood out to me in the series because it is completely unlike the other books. It’s about finding your true place. “Narnia and the North”!!!
  4. Maximum Ice science fiction, in my opinion, at it’s best. This story is WILD. Dude finished it in one day. This puts Star Treck to Shame, to SHAME I tell you! Ok I know Star Trek isn’t a novel, but this….this piece of science fiction….man it’ll freeze you to the core. No pun intended. Oh and did I mention there are cannibals in this book. Something I could have lived without, but none the less impressive.
  5. Moonraker This is a recent addition to my list of favorite books. I am enthralled by the way Ian Fleming’s writes. We’ve read all the way up to Russia with Love, and we’re starting Dr. No. Thus far this has been my favorite though. It is NOTHING like the movie. I must admit that after reading the novels I see the appeal that James Bond has. He’s such a stoic character that is easy to fall in love with.

That’s the TOP 5. I have so many other books that I love and cherish as well, and because I’m a fantasy/science fiction genre reader I have a huge list alone of just those types of books. Also if you decide you want to read any off of my list, just so you know, I make a commission off of Amazon when you use that link to purchase it ^_^.

What are your favorite novels guys?

I Know you all read too otherwise you wouldn’t be subscribed to my blog so I better get some feedback yall otherwise I’m gonna whoop some booty! Intimidation is awesome.

Infection

Published by admin under Pandemonium on May 25, 2010

When one of my babies gets sick it kinda puts me in this funky mood. It takes such a hug toll on me physically, emotionally, and mentally. As a mother you are a caregiver and comforter and when your child is sick that’s when they need all those things the most, and it’s constant.

What’s even more challenging is when your child does not let you do these things for them. The constant fight to even get Vera to take her medicine alone is wearing me out. I wonder if she is even getting enough of it considering the amount she spits out. It makes me feel bad to physically have to hold her down to wipe her bottom. She has a urinary tract infection. You can teach them everything they need to know, but unfortunately this is a hazard of potty training/letting your child do everything themselves. At the Dr’s office it took three people to hold her down for the Dr to even examine her, and I have to do that by myself all day to make sure she’s clean & apply cream. I’ve tried coaxing and bribing to no avail. I’ve settled for just spraying her down in the shower after each time she goes potty; which is a LOT.

When Vera was 3 months old she got a UTI, and was hospitalized for more than a week. Her urinary tract they discovered after performing an MRI to make sure it didn’t spread into her kidney and bladder is oddly shaped and retains pee-pee to a certain extent if not pushed out all the way. This makes her really prone to UTI’s so we’ve always given her lots of water/cranberry juice to combat the issue. However there is only so much you can do. I do not want the whole hospital fiasco happening again. She went through a lot during that ordeal. I feel kind of hopeless because unless she lets me help her there is not much I can do.
